Some
of the first trimester symptoms can be overwhelming right? – With all of the
tiredness, nausea, sore breast, headaches, constipation, and mood swings. But you'll just have to hang on and look on
the brighter side. Your bundle of joy will triple in size by the end of this
week!
How Your
Baby Is Growing
Your
baby is having significant developments in this week. At 6 weeks pregnant, he’s
about the size of a sweet pea and is 0.25inches long. Your baby’s mouth,
nostrils, and ears are beginning to take shape now, and his presently oversized
head has black spots in the places where his nose and eyes are going to emerge,
and there is a little depression in the sides of his head where the ears will
develop. His tiny heart is beginning to pump blood through his body, and it’s
beating 110 times a minute (almost twice as fast as yours). Also taking shape
are his pituitary gland, brain muscles, and bones.
Your Body at
Week 6
Your
body may not have changed on the outside, but you'll remember you are pregnant
when you always go to the restroom to take a pee- luckily the constant
urination will reduce when your uterus rises to your abdominal cavity in the
second trimester.
Don’t
be surprised if your mood keeps fluctuating when you are 6 weeks pregnant
because it’s totally normal at this stage. These mood swings are partially
caused by fluctuating hormones, and also because a significant life change is
on your way.
Spotting
or bleeding is also very common at this stage of pregnancy, it may occur in a
healthy pregnancy, but this could also be a sign of miscarriage or ectopic
pregnancy- so you may need to consult your doctor.
You
will also feel heart burns more frequently now because the muscle at the top of
your stomach that usually prevents digestive juices from backing up is relaxed
now. However, you can reduce the effect of heartburns by wearing not so tight
bras and by eating your meals a little slower.
To-Do’s When
You Are 6 Weeks Pregnant
Plan your
first prenatal visit
This
should top the list! At 6 weeks pregnant, this is a perfect time to make the
first out of your many prenatal appointments with a doctor. Your doctor will
have to conduct a thorough pelvic exam on you, as well as Pap smear and blood
test- to determine your blood group, Rh factor, blood iron content, to check
for STDs and more. He will also need to take your urine sample to check for
glucose, protein, red and white blood cells.
Feel
free to ask your doctor questions as regards your pregnancy, and always answer
questions honestly- for the sake of your health and that of your baby.
Eat Healthy
Now
is the time to watch what you eat. Take foods that are rich in vitamins and
minerals, also incorporate vitamin supplements into your meals. You totally have to stop smoking at 6 weeks
pregnant, and stop your alcohol consumption- you won’t want your baby to come
out looking sickly.
